A Legacy of Love

The Mabella was created with Mabel in mind — a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and quiet force of resilience. Though she never lived to see it come to life, her spirit is everywhere here. Her life was shaped by grace under pressure. When faced with hardship, she chose not to rest, but to rebuild — creating a home rooted in warmth, courage, and generosity. She raised five children, welcomed generations into her embrace, and taught those around her what it truly means to love without conditions.

Her spirit of strength, generosity, and hope echoes through every part of this hotel. The Mabella is more than just a place to stay — it’s a place born from legacy, built for connection, and grounded in the power of creating beauty through life’s turning points.

Just off the lobby, we’ve created a small nook filled with the things she held dear — simple, personal treasures that tell a quiet story of strength, beauty, and resilience. We invite guests to pause here — to reflect, to breathe, to remember someone they love, or simply to be still. It’s a gentle space, much like she was.

From Dream to Legacy

The Mabella is also the realization of a quiet dream carried for decades by one of Mabel’s granddaughters — a woman who left Jamaica in her twenties to build a life abroad, but whose heart never truly left home.

After a successful 35-year career, she stepped away from corporate life to bring this place to life — a space she had searched for over many years and found in the quiet bones of a quarter-finished structure. What followed was a six-year journey of renovation, design, and determination.

The work began in 2019. Then came the pandemic, supply chain delays, and the hard lessons of unreliable contractors and costly redos. Tradespeople were scarce, timelines stretched, and progress slowed — but she never gave up.

Built with the same strength, generosity, and purpose she learned from her grandmother and mother, The Mabella is now a place for celebration, togetherness, and rest — and a legacy meant to be passed down through generations to come.
