Green Grotto Caves

A limestone cave system that goes deeper than it looks — stalactites, an underground lake, and layers of history that run from Taino inhabitants to pirates to freedom fighters during the colonial era. Guided tours run daily and take about an hour.

Tip: Go in the morning before the tour buses arrive from Ocho Rios. Wear closed shoes — the paths are uneven. Great for curious kids and adults alike.

Puerto Seco Beach, Discovery Bay

Puerto Seco Beach — Discovery Bay

A proper public beach in Discovery Bay with calm, clear water and a fraction of the crowd you’d find further east. There’s a small entry fee which keeps it manageable. Vendors, food, and a local vibe — this is where families actually go on a Sunday.

Tip: Go on a weekday for the quietest experience. Bring your own snacks and towels. The water is shallow enough for young children near the shore.

Dunn's River Falls

Dunn’s River Falls

Jamaica’s most photographed waterfall, and for good reason. You climb the terraced falls in a human chain, waist-deep in cool freshwater, with the Caribbean just below. It’s equal parts beautiful and ridiculous in the best way. Couples love it. Kids lose their minds. Even the guests who say they’re “not a waterfall person” come back talking about it.

Tip: Leave by 8am — it fills up fast, especially when cruise ships are in Ocho Rios. Water shoes are essential (rentable on-site but bring your own if possible). Book tickets online in advance.

Blue Hole Secret Falls
45 min Off the Beaten Path

Blue Hole & Secret Falls

Where Dunn’s River is organized and accessible, the Blue Hole is wild. Turquoise pools, rope swings, cascades, and a jungle walk to get there. It draws a younger, more adventurous crowd and feels genuinely off-the-grid by comparison. Guided tours are available and worth it for the first visit.

Tip: Wear your swimsuit under your clothes — you will get in the water. Not ideal for guests with limited mobility. Go in the afternoon when morning tour groups have cleared out.

Fern Gully

A 3-kilometre stretch of road cut through a ravine where ferns grow overhead and the temperature drops noticeably. It’s not a destination so much as a moment — cool, green, almost cathedral-like on a clear morning. Combine it with a stop at a roadside fruit stall or a trip into Ocho Rios town.

It’s a tourist attraction, and it knows it — but if you’re travelling with young children, it delivers exactly what it promises. Swimming with dolphins, stingrays, sharks, and other marine encounters in a well-run facility. The kids will talk about it for years.
